Summary
The Public Attitudes Tracker is a nationally representative survey (UK) covering public attitudes, awareness and behaviours relating to the Department of Net Zero policies.
Description
The DESNZ Public Attitudes Tracker is a household survey created to understand and monitor public attitudes to the department’s priorities. The tracker was created in 2012 by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and then transferred to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) in 2016. Following departmental restructuring in 2023 the tracker now falls under the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ). The survey runs on a triannual basis (Winter, Spring, Summer), however it was a quarterly survey until Summer 2023. All published findings from previous waves, including DECC and BEIS reports can be found here. The dataset only contains data from Autumn 2021 as older data is unlikely to be of relevance to users. A methodology change from face-to-face to an online approach also means comparisons to data prior to Autumn 2021 is not possible due to survey mode effects. The survey uses address based online sampling (ABOS) by drawing a stratified random sample of addresses from the Royal Mail’s Postcode Address File. Approximately 20,000 invites are sent to the selected addresses. Postal surveys are also used to cover the offline population. The sample is representative of UK adults (16+) and the target sample size under the new contract (from December 2023) is 3,250. Sample sizes from previous waves were approximately 4,500. Individual and household weights are also provided in the dataset and further technical details can be found in the latest technical report.
